My Theatre Confidences 🤫
Welcome to this little corner where I share my reflections on theatre. Let me tell you: I don’t call these reviews. The word review has always felt toxic to me, heavy with judgment and tied to a middle-class, "objective" gaze that only reinforces privilege in the theatre industry.
I’m not here to cast verdicts or critique from above; I’m here to share the personal, heartfelt impact a performance has on me (when it does!) foregrounding connection, care, and community.
My Way of
Looking at Theatre
I’ve always found those cold, judgmental reviews not just uninspiring but downright arrogant. They seem to focus more on the critic’s ego than on the art itself, and that’s never sat right with me. My passion has always been for the artists, not the critics who try to outshine the work they’re supposedly “reviewing”.
Ballet's Colonial Legacy
Did you know ballet, often seen as the pinnacle of elegance, was once a tool of colonial domination?
European powers spread ballet as part of their cultural control, using it to suppress indigenous dances and establish European "superiority."
This history still shapes how we see ballet today.
How Watching
Dance Heals You
As it turns out, the simple act of watching dance offers profound mental, emotional, and cognitive benefits.
Let’s explore how witnessing dance performances can boost well-being, improve brain function, and reduce stress without us even needing to get out of our seats.

Sadler’s Wells
In one instant, performers splash water joyfully, seeming to revel in their own sense of liberation. In the next moment, they appear isolated and contemplative, grappling with vulnerability and the need for connection. A reminder of how life can be at once exhilarating and overwhelming, how something beautiful can also bring chaos.
